Subsequently, Sillitoe’s view of the situation of the working-class people contemporary to that period as it appears in Saturday Night and Sunday Morning and The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Runner is given. In order to show this, first it has been taken into consideration in this paper what is told by books in relation with the British society of the mid-twentieth century. However, the English writer Alan Sillitoe, considered one of the authors associated with the movement “angry young men”, portrays a society in which the working-class suffered from marginalization. Accordingly, the term homogeneous began to be used when speaking of this society in which differences among social classes were non-existing. The society of the 1950s in Great Britain is known as “the affluent society” due to the presence of money and work in every home.
